Mountains of Snow at Mickey’s Christmas Party

Playful spooks have interrupted our virtual tour!  Today we take a quick break from exploring the video game disasters of the past and focus on a little something I like to call… irony.
I had a chance to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Quite Contrary Harry Carrey Very Merry Christmas Party last weekend.  Something I had never done before.  The fireworks and parade were good, but not up to the level of the Halloween party.  You do get free cookies and cocoa, and all you have to do is pay $60!
You also get snowflake projections on Deep South mud mountains.  Naturally.
One thing that you may not realize is that the magic of all-you-can-eat cookies for four hours kind of wears off by the second cookie station.  Pretty much by the end of the night, I was just taking cookies, licking them, and then tossing them in the trash.  Gotta get my money’s worth.  (I’m joking—mostly—for those of you who are worried about the starving kids in Indiana).  But it does make me wonder if Santa does the same thing.
For those of you who love castle shows (and who doesn’t love castle shows?), there’s a castle show featuring Mickey and the gang singing about the holidays.  This is notable because I got to see the animated Chip and Dale heads for the first time (I don’t think they’re part of the regular castle shows).  Now, in addition to the color of their noses, you have another way to tell them apart:  Their teeth (I think Dale has 2 teeth and Chip has 1.  Or vice versa).  I also thought the entertainment department exercised admirable restraint by not having any villains try to take over this show.
Dreaming of a white concrete Christmas.  Yes, iconic show buildings receive the same treatment as your garage door at Christmas time:  snowflake projections!

It did strike me as being too hard to be inclusive.  Mickey wished us a “Merry Christmas,” Donald gave us a “Happy Hannukkah,” Goofy chimed in with a “Tolerable Kwanzaa”, and Minnie said something about Festivus.  I was amused when they launched their big Christmas Carol sing-along.  The dictionary defines “Carol” as a song of praise, especially of Christ.  The Fab Four gave us Jingle Bells, Frosty, and Rudolph.

Anyway, the irony part.  Don’t you think it’s strange that there are three mountains in the Magic Kingdom, and only two of them received snowflake projections?  Especially when Big Thunder is the only mountain in the park to feature a “snow shed” as one of its documented show scenes?
Try saying “snow shed show scene” three times really fast.

  1. Thanks bamboo 🙂 We all know that the entertainment department isn’t happy unless it is having villains break in, or releasing caged doves during big finales (actually do they still do that?)

  2. ” I also thought the entertainment department exercised admirable restraint by not having any villains try to take over this show.”

I laughed so hard at that!

  3. And to Snow White Sanctum’s comment, your snow might be free, but can you also wash your car with it? Soap bubble snow is where it’s at, baybee!

  4. Hey Russ, they do the snow thing at Hollywood Studios during the Osborne lights, so you’re not missing too much. The Halloween party is definitely the better value, over the Christmas party.

  5. We get snow for free up north. Very humorous post!

  6. Thanks for the report… I was actually feeling bad that we were missing something for when we go in a couple of weeks, but the price tag was a real deterrent. If it only promises free refreshments, an extra show, and the chance to ride rides later, then I feel better about passing on it. The only thing I thought would be cool about the whole thing was the snow, but I hear they do that in Celebration, so we might go over there and check that out instead.
